Usability Researcher #1003: Contractor or Intern Opening

Locations: Tucson, AZ (NW and SE offices)
Compensation: Minimum of $15 / hour + option for UA internship course credit.

Job Description

We are seeking an innovative, talented, and passionate usability researcher. Your responsibilities will include designing and conducting heuristic, usability, and competitive reviews. This will include a wide range of consumer products. A knowledge of usability heuristics is essential. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and fast, manage multiple activities, communicate effectively, and thrive in a chaotic startup environment.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of quantitative methods (e.g. user error measurement)
  • Ability to plan, conduct, analyze, and summarize heuristic and usability and studies, using task-based methods
  • Working towards or have a degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Usability Engineering, Psychology (Experimental, Industrial, Cognitive), Human Factors, Industrial Design, or Information Sciences
  • Proficiency with editors and document authoring tools, including advanced features; WordPress (or similar), MS Word, MS Excel
  • Personal experience with parenting or baby products and services is a big plus

Knowledge or experience with any of the following is desirable

  • Understanding of user personas
  • Understand qualitative methods (e.g. observation protocol)
  • Knowledge of field research protocols
  • Usability labs
  • Basic HTML and link editing
  • Digital video recording or editing software
  • Have experience communicating user-centered methodologies to clients

Neither office is central and public transportation is limited.
Must be eligible to work in the U.S., eligibility will be verified.
The hours and locations are flexible to accommodate class schedules.

Technical Writer / Editor #1004: Contractor or Intern Opening

Job Description

We are seeking a talented and passionate technical writer/site editor. This position will manage a range of consumer product reviews and web site content. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and fast, manage multiple activities, communicate effectively, and thrive in a chaotic startup environment.

Responsibilities include

  • Lead the editorial vision and updates for the site
  • Edit, update, and author publication-quality product reviews
  • Manage review publication cycles. This includes generating documents and managing content on production web servers
  • Prepare, edit, and update publication-quality photos for the site

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year experience technical writing. One year experience in an editorial role is desirable
  • Demonstrates excellent project management skills, anticipates problems, and develops contingency plans
  • Proficiency with editors and document authoring tools, including advanced features; WordPress (or similar), MS Word, MS Excel
  • Working towards or have a Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
  • Ability to be independently responsible for numerous deliverables, with minimal supervision. Must be self-motivated and able to manage workload to meet deadlines
  • Native English speaker or excellent command of the English language
  • Personal experience with parenting or baby products and services is a big plus!

Knowledge or experience with any of the following is desirable

  • Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style and Wired magazine writing style
  • Graphic Design training
  • Knowledge of Photoshop
  • Basic HTML and link editing
  • CSS
  • SEO knowledge is a big plus
  • Usability labs or Heuristic evaluation methods
