Setup
The InStep Safari Swivel Double stroller we tested came with instructions for their Single model, not the Double. Some photos were not helpful, and some key instructions were omitted. Wheel attachment was easy.
Securing children, and Safety
Placing children in the seats is fairly easy, but they must be lifted over the front bar.
Adjusting and fastening the harnesses is easy, although the harness parts need to be interconnected. A single button releases each harness.
Transport
As a double, its 32 lbs and folded size are challenging for some people to load and unload from a vehicle. Also, its 33″ wide wheel-base may be a tight fit through some doorways.
Folding
The locking latch is fairly easy to locate, and the stroller is easy to fold and unfold, with an audible click when fully unfolded.
Child-friendly features
- Footrests, reclining seats, and a smooth ride
- Canopy has a see-through window with cover flap, but does not adjust for low sun angle
- Harness design is nice and comfortable
Performance and features
- Very easy to push and steer
- Large tires for smooth ride
- Two storage bins
- One attachable pouch with cup holder
Although the handlebar (37-38″ high) is not adjustable on the Double model, it is one of the easiest strollers to push. The pivoting front wheel allows very good maneuverability in town. Sidewalk “lips” are not a problem and the ride is comfortable over moderate bumps. Due to its tricycle design, it has a tendency to tilt when going over curbs, but it is stable in emergency turns, and across steep terrain.
The two seating spaces can be a problem for taller children. While the canopy has a see-through window and cover flap, the canopy does not adjust for low sun angles.
A lever at each rear wheel sets the parking brake for one side only, and they are difficult to engage and release.
Design
The InStep Safari Swivel Double stroller has a nice appearance. A low center-of-gravity provides stroller stability.
