Full Review

Setup 3 stars -- Good

The Graco iMonitor requires an initial automatic ‘synching’ between the parent base units. This procedure is fairly easy and quick. The battery cover of the baby unit is a bit hard to remove, requiring a Phillips and flat screwdriver. It is very important to make sure all cords stay out of the reach of the baby to avoid a strangulation accident!

Batteries and Charging 3 stars -- Good

Parent units are supplied with Ni-Cad packs that require an initial charging of 16 hours before first use. Charge life is not specified. The parent units have both charging bases, and inputs for AC operation. The baby unit requires three AAA batteries (not included).

Range 3 stars -- Good

Though advertised with a range of 2000 feet, like most claims, it is drastically affected by location and electronic interference. The range is very good up to 50 feet, good up to 75 feet, and poor beyond 100 feet. Light background static increases somewhat as the parent units are passed by a computer. However, no static comes from a 900MHz phone or another 900MHz monitor within six feet of the parent unit.

Audio Quality 2 stars -- Flawed

Sound from the speakers is tinny, and the volume low.

Performance and Features 3 stars -- Good

This monitor was comparable to other monitors in this price range with the added security digital signals provide.

Features:

  • Battery backup in baby unit, in case of power failure
  • Eavesdrop protected through digital encoded channels
  • Sound indicator lights on parent units provide visual indication of baby’s sounds
  • Can be plugged in, or operate by battery
  • Out-of-range beep, low battery, and charging indicator lights on parent units
  • Belt clips for convenience

Design 4 stars -- Great

The baby unit on the Graco iMonitor has a narrow bottom and wide top, but it is still stable enough to use. The parent units are small and lightweight, but tip over easily when not in the charging base. We noticed that the rubber covers over the power input plugs on the parent units generally stick out and sometimes made it difficult to seat the units in the charging bases.
