Full Review

Setup 3 stars -- Good

The Fisher-Price Private Connection Dual requires an initial automatic ‘synching’ between the parent units. This procedure is easy and quick to do. A Phillips and flat screwdriver are needed to remove the battery covers from the parent units. It is very important to make sure all cords stay out of the reach of the baby to avoid a strangulation accident!

Batteries and Charging 3 stars -- Good

Parent units are supplied with Ni-Cad packs that require an initial charging of 10 to 12 hours before first use. The subsequent recharge time is listed as 8 hours. Instructions indicate that wires from the battery packs need to be inserted into a socket in the parent units. There is a warning in the instructions to not overcharge the batteries. We did not see a ‘full charge’ indicator, but discovered the blinking battery icon stops blinking when the battery is fully charged. The charge life is not specified. The parent units can also be plugged in. The baby monitor must be plugged in.

Range 3 stars -- Good

Though advertised with a range of 800 feet, we find the range to be excellent up to 25 feet, very good up to 75 feet, and good up to 100 feet. Static is light and intermittent and increases with distance from the baby monitor. The ten-channel selection provides some measure of privacy and reduces interference.

Audio Quality 3 stars -- Good

The audio quality from the speakers is good, and there is sufficient volume.

Performance and Features 3 stars -- Good

This monitor has average performance and features.

Features:

  • Parent units displays show channels, battery level, and reception strength
  • Displays have backlight with 15-second timeout for viewing in dark
  • Sound indicator lights on parent units provide visual indication of baby’s sounds
  • AC power and battery operation for parent units
  • Easy-to-use channel switching and volume controls
  • Belt clips for convenience

Design 3 stars -- Good

The Fisher-Price Private Connection Dual has a plump round style. The baby monitor is very stable on its pads and the parent units stand well on their own. The short antennas are nice, and do not interfere when units are clipped on a belt. A protective plastic film with stenciled graphics covers the LCD. A closer look revealed the small tab by which to pull away this cover.
